![]() ![]() Feel free to point them this and previous posts ( Problems With libxml2 For WordPress XML-RPC Users and Update On libxml2 Issues) if they want some history and context of the problem. If you are on a host that is using known broken version combinations of PHP & libxml2 now you can tell them exactly which versions do work. ![]() I went back to my test setup and built PHP 5.2.9 with libxml2 2.7.3 and added new posts to a WordPress blog via XML-RPC with lots of tags in the post body. However, we found out during implementing the XMLRPC check in our own WordPress security plugin, that many of the plugins that claim to disable XMLRPC don’t do so completely. In addition, MarsEdit is built for multiple weblogs: the Weblogs drawer serves double duty for account preferences management and as a folder for entries. There are many security plugins available that will attempt to disable WordPress’s XML-RPC interface, such as the Disable XML-RPC plugin. If this doesn’t work, take a look inside your WordPress directory on the blog server, to see if your xmlrpc.php file has been moved or renamed. This is not a sign of an error, but reflects the fact that WordPress expects an app like MarsEdit to connect to the URL, instead of a browser. Obviously MarsEdit will fail to obtain meaningful information about the blog, so you’ll have to edit the information manually. XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only. Just click the + button beneath MarsEdit’s list of blogs to add a new one, and specify the name and URL. When testing this also confirm that your build of PHP 5.2.9 is using the correct version of libxml2 and not some older version (you can easily check this using phpinfo( ) ). The main window lists entries, in four columns, by default: title, weblog, date, and category. You’ll actually do this as soon as you’ve got your first very small test-case of a script finished. Mixing either one with older versions will not work. To make it perfectly clear, you need to have BOTH libxml2 version 2.7.3 and PHP version 5.2.9 in order to make this work. With the release of PHP 5.2.9 all of the pieces are available to solve the XML bracket stripping puzzle. 3:05pm : WordPress & libxml2 Episode IV: A New Plugin ![]()
